Women's Golf: Locals at the Australian Open

Several local professional golfers are at the ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open at Royal Melbourne Golf Club's par-73 layout this week.

Jessica Korda, a Bradenton native, is faring the best thus far. Korda fired a first-round 72, which was just three shots off the lead.

Currently, Korda is tied for seventh place at 2-under par. She is 1-under par through three holes in her second round.

Also in the field is Brittany Lincicome, who has played several West Florida Golf Tour events locally to keep her competitive juices flowing during several breaks in last year's LPGA Tour's schedule.

Lincicome shot 70 on the first day, but is presently 2-over in the second round and sits six shots off leader So Yeon Ryu (7-under par).

IMG Academies standout Victoria Tanco is in the clubhouse with a 147 total after a second round 75.

Jodi Ewart, who trains at IMG and works on her game at Palm-Aire Country Club, is further back at 152. The Manatee County resident gained both her LPGA and Ladies European Tour cards through Q-School in December and January, and is making her season debut this week.

Check back tomorrow for more on how the local ladies are faring.
