PGA Tour: Transitions Championship Monday qualifier pairings set for local players
The pairings for Monday's PGA Tour qualifier for the Transitions Championship are set.
Players with local ties either through residence in Manatee County or by playing the West Florida Golf Tour, which operates out of the Bradenton/Sarasota area, are in the field and are looking for a spot in next week's PGA Tour event at Palm Harbor.
Here are the tee times (by player, all off No. 1):
Domenico Geminiani, 9:54 a.m.
The Bradenton phenom is set to turn 16 years old at the end of the month, but showed golfing guile fit for a veteran when he booked a spot into Monday's qualifier by progressing through Thursday's pre-qualifier at the Fox Hollow Golf Club.
Vince India, 8:51 a.m.
Last year's Big Ten Player of the Year also qualified earlier this week in the pre-qualifier. The former University of Iowa star has honed his game on the WFGT and taken up residence in Bradenton.
Daniel Stone, 10:12 a.m.
Jake Katz, 10:39 a.m.
Roger Hebert, 12:45 p.m.
These three players qualified like Geminiani and India. And like India, all three have played several WFGT events in the past.
Ty Tryon, 10:39 a.m.
The former teenage prodigy, who trained at IMG Academies, also played some WFGT events during his offseason from the Nationwide Tour.
Hampton Ballard, 10:57 a.m.
Ballard works at the Ritz-Carlton Members Golf Club in east Manatee and is in Monday's field. He had a strong showing at last year's PGA Tour Q-School, advancing all the way to the final stage. Ballard has also played in several WFGT events, earning victories and played in the final pairing of the this year's Manatee County Open on the last day of play.
Robert Gamez, 11:06 a.m.
Gamez lives in the Orlando area, but his ties to Manatee County come from his several appearances in various WFGT events. He's won multiple times on the PGA Tour in the past.
Travis Hampshire, 12:36 p.m.
Hampshire is the most notable WFGT alum in this week's field, mainly because he graduated from the mini-tour to the Nationwide Tour. He still plays WFGT events in the offseason, but he's firmly entrenched one step from the PGA Tour. He also played the Transitions Championship last year.
Kelly Sellers, 11:24 a.m.
Lee Janzen, 11:51 a.m.
Brad Brunner, 12:54 p.m.
These three players all have experience in competitive golf tournaments, and all three have played on the WFGT. Janzen is the biggest draw out of the entire field, not just players with local ties, as he has two major championships on his resume.
